Hotel Tips

One great way to pinch pennies and get some real local grub is to hit up the Pier 21 food court on the top floor of Terminal 21, one of the good cheap food courts in Bangkok. You get a prepaid card and then sample dozens of different Thai dishes from the different stalls; most come at less than a couple of bucks for a meal. It’s clean, air-con’ed, and a scrumptious way to try everything.

One more suggestion for seeing the town from a different angle is to walk the ‘khlongs’ (canals). The guests may be taken for a brief walk from the hotel to the Asok Pier and then board the Khlong Saen Saep Express Boat. This is one of the fastest, rowdiest, and highly local public transport systems running through the canals of the city, cutting through water. It is a great and extremely inexpensive means to avoid traffic going to such historic places like the Golden Mount (Wat Saket). It is a real adventure.

For a night out, check out the amazing variety of rooftop bars in Sukhumvit. The famous ones are quite overpriced, so a good recommendation is to find one’s a more relaxed place off that’s not well known. Central location for the hotel means you are a short walk or a brief BTS ride from dozens of options. Having a cold beer while gazing over the glistering city skyline is so Bangkok.

Take to the public transport system. Its proximity to the BTS and MRT interchange is the highest value added for the hotel. A Rabbit Card for the BTS or a stored value card for the MRT leads to easy travel. Mo Chit weekend market attractions along the riverside from Saphan Taksin station, or Siam Square shopping paradise: all ‘day-trip-able’ areas can be planned on air-conditioned trains.
